Video Content Marketing
What advantage does video have over every other form of online content?
It grabs our attention like no other content medium. When you talk to someone over video chat, you connect with them. When you watch a well-done film, you feel yourself transported to the place of the film.
We connect with video so much, it is no wonder businesses that want to keep you online are using more and more video. It’s also no wonder that serious marketers use video in their content marketing mix.
Video Distribution Platforms
The most popular distribution platform is YouTube.
But, you knew that, didn’t you?
You may or may not know that there are other large online distribution platforms, like Vimeo, Daily Motion and Twitch. For most businesses, the most important distribution platforms are YouTube, Facebook, and Vimeo, in that order.
YouTube is essential because it competes with Facebook as a social media channel, it is the largest video viewing platform in the world, and its search engine is currently the 2nd most used search engine in the world.
Facebook, the new competition in video distribution, offers specific advantages to businesses who use videos on Facebook, especially Facebook Live. For the moment, that means that video distribution on Facebook is valuable for the social media sphere as well as its value as standalone content.
Finally Vimeo. Vimeo is a more professional distribution network designed for small businesses to upload videos, manage them on their own, but still use the system. And of course, you can upload videos to your own website or a variety of cloud servers, if you need to.
OK! We’ve discussed the main distribution channels. We will go more into detail on them in later posts as I roll out Paul Davis Solution’s video marketing plan.
What Tools Do I Need to Create Marketing Videos?
People ask me what it costs to get started doing marketing videos, and the first answer is: a modern smartphone. This gives you a portable camera with a decent microphone, and the capability to connect with people via going live on your phone.
On the other hand, imagine having more money than 99.99% of the people on the planet, and spending all of that money to make videos. This is what Hollywood does all the time. Avengers 2 cost $444 million to make. Granted, it brought in $1,405 million. But, that goes to show that the costs of creating good video content is not limited.
What Is the Basic Setup
Better question. A basic setup requires that you have a good phone, a device to hold the phone steady while filming (Tripod, Selfie-Stick, or my personal wish-item, the DJI OSMO). You also should have some video editing software, although I am looking at some easier and/or more affordable options, I still recommend Adobe Premiere Pro.
Now, for intermediate and advanced setups, you need more. I can’t really tell you what you need specifically, because I am in the early stages of learning video as part of marketing content.
Finally, video content marketing can be done live, pre-recorded, or produced and edited content that looks like a traditional video.
Whatever the method you use, I highly recommend starting video marketing as soon as possible. Leave a comment below if you’ve started to use video recently and let us know how it’s going!
